Classroom Celebrations

What a tremendous evening! The Night of Exhibitions (and also the following day of presentations exchanged between IA and ELC students) was so very empowering for our students. They had worked quite independently and with much self-direction and multi-age collaboration on their projects. The additional family support and the scaffolding from us allowed them to engage more and more passionately with their topics. It was an exciting process to witness.

Next week our students will continue to demonstrate and deepen their learning by teaching you through an evening performance (Thursday night, 6pm) about Wangari Maathai and a play called “Bringing Rain to Kapiti Plain”. The following day they will participate in the Day of Dialogue – a day-long event during which there will be Africa-related performances and presentations – and our students will be docents of some of these presentations themselves. We are tremendously excited about this opportunity for our students – and in fact would love for you, if you have time, to participate in this event as well. For lunch, Walkabout students will be preparing a special Ethiopian dish. If your child is interested in trying this meal, please send in $2 – otherwise your child is, of course, welcome to eat her usual school lunch or lunch from home.

Class T-Shirts

Class t-shirts are in. When your child brings in $5 we will label their t-shirt. We will keep t-shirts here at school so students can wear them during our performance on April 28 and during Day of Dialogue on April 29. T-shirts will go home with students on Fri., April 29th after school. In collaboration with our students one of our parents created a t-shirt design that honors our study of Wangari Maathai, trees and African animals!

Peace,

Ana and Mary
