August 19th Newsletter

Mary and Ana’s Newsletter — Aug. 19, 2016

Welcome and welcome back!

Antoine de Saint-Exupery (author of The Little Prince) once said: “For behind all seen things lies something vaster; everything is but a path, a portal, or a window opening on something more than itself.” We are hoping that this new school year will provide a multitude of paths, portals, and windows to our students that will lead them to exciting discoveries and joyful learning opportunities. Our journey began this week with community building, making new friends and re-connecting with old ones, setting intentions, and becoming stewards of our shared learning space.

Ice cream Social/ Back-to-School Night: Please join us for ice cream and a first information night – Tuesday, Aug. 30, 3:45 – 5pm.

Our first field trip is scheduled for September 2nd. We will take the bus to Lair o’the Bear, a favorite mountain park. We are hoping for many parents to join us in the fun. The trip will be free of charge thanks to our wonderful annual Pumpkin Dash fundraiser.

Friday Folders: one of the several ways we share information with you is through our Friday Folders. Please send a pocket folder (simple or fancy – it is up to your child) with your child’s name on the front to school. Every Friday this folder will hold a newsletter, sometimes work, and other important information. The folders should come back to school the following Monday.

Needs: we always welcome (and need) boxes of Kleenex and Disinfecting wipes….

Upcoming Dates

  • Friday, Aug. 26 – Assessment Day. If you have not yet signed up your child, please check in with us. Your child will be at school only during the time slot s/he is signed up.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 30 – Ice Cream Social and Back-to-School Night, 3:45-5:00pm.

Peace,   Ana and Mary

Dear ELC families,

Homework begins! The first assignment is for the adults. If you are new to the ELC, please write a letter to us telling everything you love about your child. The connection you have with your child is extremely unique and gives us another lens to shape the deep connections that develop at school as well. Share with us how your child is special. Help us learn their loves and interests. This is your chance to bring to light everything you ever wanted your child’s advisors to know about your exceptional person. If you have already completed this assignment last year and you would like to write an updated letter, please do. 🙂

Thankfully,

The ELC Team
