We have all been engaged in a wonderful week of school together. We have been singing together, reading favorite stories, talking about what we want to learn this year, writing about summer break, building stamina for reading and writing, and getting to know one another.
Tomorrow we have our Reading Assessment Day. Please see below for a reminder of your scheduled time. We recognize that parents have to do a tremendous amount of juggling to make this work, but it really helps us get to know your child as a reader!
Scheduled Time Slot for Reading Assessment Day
8:30 – 9:45
10:30 – 11:45
12:30 – 1:45
2:00 – 3:15
Please note the date for our Ice Cream Social and Back-to-School Evening. We have scheduled it for Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from 3:45-5:00. Parents can join their children after school for ice cream sandwiches. Children will play on the playground while parents join advisors (teachers) in their child’s classroom to find out about our plans for the school year, volunteer opportunities, and how to support their child’s learning at home.
Nuts and Bolts:
Mary and Ana’s Newsletter: We send home a paper copy of our newsletter weekly in the Friday Folder. In addition the newsletter is posted on our website, and we will send it to you by email. Our website is http://sunsmoonsandstars.wordpress.com You can also find a link to our website through the http://jeffcoopen.org page under community.
Water Bottles: Please have your child bring a water bottle to school labeled with his/her name. Colorado is extremely dry and it is important for the children to stay hydrated. Trips to the drinking fountain do not give our children enough water to stay hydrated, so a water bottle is a must.
Friday Folder: Please have your child choose a special 2 pocket folder which will become his/her Friday Folder. We will send home our weekly newsletter, homework, and any other communication coming from the school in this special folder every Friday.
Supplies: At registration you paid a $40 supply fee which will cover the cost of paper, pencils, markers, notebooks, crayons, markers, glue, scissors, rulers, pencils, construction paper, paint, and other supplies. If you are able to bring in Kleenex, cleaning wipes, and/or ziplock of any size that would really help us out.
Snacks: Students may bring their snack outside at afternoon recess. There is not a morning snack, due to our specials schedule. We would like to encourage families to choose a healthy snack for your child. We are really trying to move away from surgery treats and emphasizing the importance of HEALTHY snacks for a HEALTHY body.
Birthdays are fun to celebrate. We have a silly birthday ritual and families may choose to bring in a snack/treat to share. We have a student with allergies. Please do not include any nuts in these treats.
Free and Reduced Lunch: If you think you qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch, please consider filling out the paperwork even if your child is planning to bring his/her lunch to school. Please she Sharon in the Financial Office if you are interested, or you can fill out a form for free and reduced lunch through a link from our school website. Our school qualifies for grants and programs based on the percentage of students who qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch program.
Support the School: Please check out the school’s website (http://jeffcoopen.org). There is a lot of information about our program including a variety of opportunities to support the school in many ways: from helping with the garden to fundraising.
