Ana and Mary’s News ~ May 5th, 2017
“This we know: All things are connected like the blood that unites us. We did not weave the web of life, we are merely a strand in it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.” Chief Seattle
From the Classroom:
More than 150 years ago Chief Seattle gave a powerful speech –addressed to all future generations. His words are passed on and illustrated in the book Brother Eagle, Sister Sky. We challenged our students this week to “synthesize” his message. To synthesize means to “put together ideas” and as always our learning community rose to the challenge. Some of the conclusions were: Chief Seattle is saying “to love the earth”, “to think of earth first”, “to be thoughtful about our actions since they have consequences”, “to study and learn and observe before we act”.
During writing time all students drafted and published poems. The Seaturtles’ weeklong exploration of dandelions culminated in dandelion poems. The Dolphins celebrated special objects in their lives through poetic renderings.
Our week ended with a wonderful, active, fun-filled Field Day. Thank you Rosie and David!!!!
