“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”

― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

Our week was filled with song and dance!  We worked very hard to bring you our Forest Performance on Wednesday night.  Students practiced their parts and learned to be patient and work together.  We are so grateful to Michele Blanco for making all of the colorful costumes for the forest creatures.  It was such a joy to see the children perform together and share their learning with you.  Our trip to the Colorado Ballet was enchanting.  We were transported into Neverland alongside Peter Pan and Wendy.  The dancers brought the story alive, the costumes and sets were amazing, and the music compelling.  What a treat!  Between the Monet exhibit at the beginning of this month and the Colorado Ballet at the end of this month we feel very grateful for experiencing the arts with our students.

A Letter from Ana:

Dear “Mary-and-Ana” families,

It has been an honor and delight to be an advisor and member of the Open School. I have such deep gratitude for this learning community that raised my own children and allowed me to help raise the children of so many other families.

What a privilege to have the freedom to create curriculum that matters.  What joy to be a learner every day alongside students and savor new discoveries together. What responsibility, both satisfying and unsettling, of hoping to envision what we, students and advisors alike, might need to know and be able to do in order to create the world that ought to be.

This journey has been incredible. With a heart full of love and gratitude, I will, after this school year ends, embark on the next part of my life’s adventure: to devote time to my family and especially my grand-babies expected for 2020.

This will be a bittersweet goodbye. I am so thankful to know that my amazing teammate Mary will continue to be at the helm of this on-going ELC-OpenSchool-voyage.

Warmly,

Ana

Valentine’s Day:  We will celebrate Valentine’s Day in our classroom on February 13th.  Please have your child bring in 42 Valentine Cards.  Your child should sign each card but please do not have them write the names of other students on the cards.  We will deliver Valentine Cards to each other and open them in class. We discourage treats however, if any treats come in attached to cards we will ask students not to eat them at school – students will take them home where they can be eaten under parent supervision.  We will make Valentine Bags here at school.

Portfolios: THANK YOU to all of those students who have brought in a binder. If your child is a Sun (3rd grade) new to our program this year or a Moon (2nd grade) please bring in a 2 inch binder that has a clear pocket in the front. Donations of plastic sleeves (sheet protectors) are welcome.
